Festival of Sant Ignaci Antioquia
1 February Celebration
A festival held in Son Servera to commemorate the withdrawal of the military cordon sanitaire set up during the plague epidemic that hit the town in 1820. The quarantine was lifted on 21 February 1821 and the church agreed to hold a solemn mass every 1 February.
There are many stories and legends about how the plague reached Son Servera, but the most plausible is that it arrived in a boat from Tangier that docked on our coast in May 1820. The only thing we know for certain is that by August of that year the epidemic had ended the lives of 1040 of the town’s inhabitants, leaving a population of just 768, to whom, through this sincere commemoration, we express our gratitude for their efforts in rebuilding our town’s society.Add to calendar 40 Festival of Sant Ignaci Antioquia
